Tension Series - Shelf
- Birch Plywood, paracord, hardware (600 x 370 x 120 mm) The pieces in the “Tension Series” were created with several ideas in mind. Initially created to explore the idea of transformation, they were an attempt to create pieces of furniture that are two dimensional components at first, then can be assembled to become three dimensional furniture objects. By using interlocking lap-joints, Paracord and re-usable mechanical fasteners, this removes adhesives from the object’s construction and allows the consumer to assemble and disassemble the furniture as needed. The use of Birch plywood stems from the fact that it remains strong yet flexible even when kerf cut, it is a pre-dimensioned material that increases production speed and is also a relatively low cost material. Ultimately, the objects featured in the “Tension Series” can repeatedly undergo a transformation from a 2D to a 3D furniture object in order to provide design solutions to people with small or temporary living spaces.
