Reforming IKEA Project - FORMÅ
- Concrete and IKEA furniture fixtures (400 x 300 x 250 mm) This project aims to gain an understanding of the relationships people living in metropolitan areas have with everyday, domestic objects inside their living spaces. Through the design, implementation, and study of the artifacts created for DIY home customization, this research aims to support people in experiencing increased levels of self-satisfaction, well-being, and sense of value with their belongings. Together with this creative act of hands-on making, everyday design practices allow people to reflect on the objects they own and why, while also achieving an increased sense of well-being and agency towards their domestic objects. If you want to create one of these artifacts for your own home or participate in a collaborative, DIY workshop event, please email me at “DIYWorkshop@outlook.com” for more information. Otherwise, click the image below to download an instruction manual PDF and you can build a FORMA of your own. When you finish, feel free to send a photo of your finished furniture object to “DIYWorkshop@outlook.com” as well! Let me know why you decided to undertake one of these DIY projects in the first place and how you plan to use the furniture object in your home. I am also interested in how you might have customized or personalized your object along the way and if you have suggestions and improvements or even ideas for other Reforming IKEA projects.
